Lufthansa carried a record number of people through Manchester last year. The carrier saw an 8.5% increase in passengers to 697,915, during 2011. It announced the figures as it gears up to launch a new daily service from Manchester to Berlin, on top of its existing flights to Frankfurt, Munich and Düsseldorf. UK and Ireland general manager Christian Schindler said: “We have reaffirmed our commitment to Manchester by announcing a new daily flight to Berlin from June 3 to coincide with the opening of the new Berlin-Brandenburg “Willy Brandt” Airport, where we are making a major investment
