LATAM’s striking unions meet in Santiago

Unions representing LATAM Airlines workers in Chile, Peru, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil and Paraguay are meeting in Santiago to support striking LAN Express maintenance and ground operations staff. LAN Express staff, represented by the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores union, have been on strike since April 9 in a protest over wages.

In a statement, LAN Airlines said: “The company regrets having reached this instance after making every effort to come to an agreement. This strike … affects 5% of LAN’s workforce within Chile. LAN reiterates its commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards in all its operations to protect our passengers and employees. The company welcomes an open dialogue with the union and trusts in reaching a solution as soon as possible.”
