Kingfisher suspends operations to some destinations; tells staff to stay home

Kingfisher Airlines has suspended operations to several destinations and asked most employees at those places to stay home. Although the specific cities where the operations were not identified by the airline, it did confirm that they are not part of its “core intermetro schedule” and connectivity has been maintained to many cities where it is the sole operator.
The airline said in a statement that it was in a holding position at the moment:
“We are in a holding pattern right now and waiting for various decisions from the government and our consortium of bankers on FDI (foreign direct investment) policy and working capital funding,” Kingfisher said in a statement. “All of these will have a major impact on the staffing decisions we will have to make.”
The employees told to staff home will remain on the airline rolls until it can recapitalise and resume operations to those destinations cancelled today.
Kingfisher will operate about 120 flights with 20 planes this summer, according to its revised schedule, the airline said in a statement, while reiterating its “immediate priority is to access our funds to pay outstanding staff salaries”.
