ITWF UNION TO UNITE WITH ONEWORLD ALLIANCE UNIONS

The International Transport Workers’ Federation, an umbrella of trades unions, is planning to forge closer links with unions across the oneworld airline alliance in order to strengthen worker resistance against restructuring in the aviation industry.

The oneworld unions are meeting in Washington, DC in April to discuss setting up of a labour council coordinating committee that will co-ordinate activity and information, while also looking to develop joint strategies and tactics.

Oneworld alliance pilots have already organized a similar oneworld cockpit crew coalition.

ITF civil aviation section Vice Chairman Brendan Gold, said, the ITF is committed to building a strong and active global network of unions “as a necessary counterbalance to the employers in the airline alliances.”
