Iranian CAO announces 30% rise in air ticket prices

Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization has decided to raise air ticket prices by 30%. The decision has been made despite the directive of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s on increasing the prices only when it is endorsed by the subsidy reform plan’s specialised working group. The subsidy reform plan, set to go into effect in the current Iranian month of Mehr (Sept 23-Oct 22), envisages eliminating subsidies for fuel and some other basic goods and services

Although the Supreme Aviation Committee has the authority to change air travelling prices, a meeting was held on Monday (October 4) by the first vice president, officials of the commerce ministry and the Civil Aviation Organization to further study the issue.
