Higher airport charges that are out of proportion to airfares are forcing low-cost airlines to abandon short cross-border flights to neighbouring countries. British Airways-Comair has withdrawn from the Johannesburg-Maputo route it introduced last year partly due to airport charges and party due to falling demand.
