GoAir registers interest to fly overseas

Indian airline, GoAir, has become eligible under the 5/20 rule to fly overseas following the induction of its 20th aircraft into its fleet.

“GoAir has expressed its intent to fly overseas from next calendar year. It has indicated some regions,” Civil Aviation Secretary R N Choubey said. Those regions are reported to be Europe as well as the Middle East but the airline has not yet submitted a formal application. Should it do so, and be approved, GoAir could become the first Indian budget airline to fly to Europe, although it may need to acquire longer-range aircraft. GoAir’s fleet is made up of all A320s and it has a further 71 on order. To operate A320s long-haul, the carrier would need to reduce capacity.
