French air traffic control staff will begin a six-day strike action this week, in protest at budget cuts. The action has been set to coincide with the deadline on June 30th for France to present its five-year budget plans for aviation to the EU in Brussels, in association with the EU Single European Sky plans to reduce navigation costs by re-organising airspace. Airlines expect the strike to have a “severe” effect on travel to and from France, but will also affect many other services passing over the country. A similar industrial action last year caused the cancellation of 1,800 flights
