Swiss carrier Darwin Airline, which operates as Etihad Regional, has stated that it will be cancelling routes from Switzerland to France and Germany in light of competitive pressures from Swiss as well as regulatory hurdles following Etihad’s plans to take a 33.3% stake. Switzerland’s Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) has not yet reached a decision on Etihad’s investment. CEO Maurizio Merlo has indicated that redundancies will be limited to less than 30, which he said was a “considerable reduction from the initially forecasted layoffs”.
