Etihad expands route network within India

Etihad Airways has announced several new destinations in India. The airline will extend its route network to Kochi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kozhikode and Hyderabad, commencing the expansion during July.

The expansion is due to increased demand. CEO James Hogan said: “As one of the largest, fastest-growing and most exciting travel markets in the world, India continues to play an important role in our growth plans. Last year alone, more than 885,000 people flew on our Indian services, an increase of 20% on the previous year.”

Etihad expects to service the routes using the new A320s that are set for delivery during the rest of 2014.

The route expansion within the Indian market is in addition to Etihad’s recent codesharing deal with Indian LCC Jet Airways.
