The US Bureau of Transportation statistics show total full-time and part-time employment was 564,221 in September, compared with August’s upwardly revised figure of 564,217. The prior-year figure was 564,546. When the last increase was recorded in June 2008, industrywide employment stood at 612,940. US Airways Group has announced it will need 500 crew members next year to replace retiring employees and Delta Air Lines and Republic Airways both reporting rise in employees over last year’s numbers.
