EMIRATES URGES AIRBUS TO BOOST RANGE OF THE A350

Emirates has urged Airbus to boost the range of the A350 aircraft. The airline has 20 A350-1000s on order but president Tim Clark has complained that the aircraft cannot reach Los Angeles from Dubai and it is forced to use the less efficient 777-300ER on the route.

“We’re finding that the smallest aircraft that’s useful to us needs to be 340 seats,” Clark said. “We’re trying to persuade Airbus to realign the A350-1000 more toward the ER, increasing both its capacity and its range.”

However, he is also interested in Boeing’s suggestion of plans to redesign the 777, which would fix the same problem. If both requirements are met, Clark indicated the airline would order more A350s and revamped 777s.

“There’s room for both planes, quite frankly,” he said.
