Emirates rejects French criticisms

Emirates has hit back at criticism of gulf airlines as having an unfair advantage – the most recent coming from the CEO of Air France, Henri Gourgeon.

Gourgeon has claimed that Gulf carriers are unfairly supported by cash injections, cheap landing rates and cheap fuel from the state.

Tim Clark, president of Emirates, denies that the airline’s success is down to government subsidies and the result of its commercially-driven business model.

“When so many entities and economies around the world are being shored up by governments in order to survive, it is surprising to single out Emirates with unsubstantiated claims of being subsidised,” he said to Gulf News.
