Emirates may sue US carriers

Speaking to the Financial Times, Sir Tim Clark, chief executive of Emirates, said that the company “will deal with [the allegations] line by line. They will be eating their words,” he said. His comments relate to the claims by US carriers to Washington DC that the airline has grown aggressively on the back of state subsidies.

Clark is meeting with US officials today. Clark said to the FT that the allegations were beginning to affect opportunities in other markets where legacy carriers were struggling to compete with Gulf carriers’ younger fleets, services and fares.

He added that if commercial damage to the airline could be proven as a result of what has been said in recent weeks, “all options are on the table” including legal action.
