Croatia Airlines faces bankruptcy

The Croatian Transport Minister has warned that Croatia Airlines is facing the very serious prospect of bankruptcy if it does not cut 20% of its workforce and 40% of its wage bill. The minister made the comments ostensibly in an attempt to halt the strike of the airline’s pilots and cabin crew.
The strike began on May 14 is continuing after management and unions failed to reach a deal on new contracts after two days of negotiations.
The suspension of flights at the airline has forced the Croatian Government to consider the future for the airline past bankruptcy including a reborn national carrier, potentially with foreign backing.
