A twin-engine aircraft, operated by private airline JSAir, crashed in the military’s central ordnance depot area near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Friday shortly after takeoff. All 21 passengers perished, some 15 of which were employees of an Italian oil and gas exploration company, ENI, which chartered the airliner under a contract from July 2007. An inquiry has been launched into determining the cause of the crash but initial reports suggest one of the engines malfunctioned on takeoff.
