The East coast snow storm that closed the three major New York airports is expected to cost the airline industry up to $150 million. According to the Federal Aviation Administration some 6,000 flights were cancelled, leaving many passengers stranded. However airlines are unlikely to foot the bill as many passengers opted for cheaper, non-refundable tickets, which means airlines are not required to pay to house or feed domestic passengers because of cancellations caused by weather.
