China West Air to charge for checked baggage

Low cost carrier China West Air will begin charging for checked baggage from late March. The airline is introducing a new ticket type for passengers travelling with hand baggage only, called a “bare fare”. Checked baggage may be purchased in advance or at the airport for 50 yuan for 10kg and 90 yuan for 20kg checked baggage. Other budget airlines are likely to follow suit. Spring Airlines offers a free checked baggage allowance of 8kg, with 15kg free baggage offered by 9 Air and 20kg offered by China United Airlines.
