China Eastern to boost international route network

China Eastern Airlines Corp plans to boost capacity by 10% in the second half of 2012 as it grows its fleet and introduces more international services.
The Shanghai-based airline expanded passenger capacity 4.6 percent through June.
China Eastern will take delivery of 21 new aircraft during the second half of the year, including A320s, 737s and A330s. Next year the airline is expecting to take delivery of another 47 aircraft.
Cargo demand is falling at the airline, which plans to reduce the number of freighter aircraft to pare losses. Losses for China Eastern freight operations widened to 400 million yuan in the first half from 250 million yuan a year earlier. Net income fell 65% to 806.9 million due to higher fuel costs and currency losses.
