Canada figures for January travel

Canadian airlines flew closer to full capacity in January than January 2011 as demand for air travel extended into what is traditionally a slow month for business travel. Air Canada, reported a system wide load factor of 79.1% for last month, up from 78% in January 2011 as a 1.9% increase in capacity was absorbed by a 3.3% increase in traffic.

WestJet Airlines, Canada’s second-biggest carrier, increased its load factor last month to 79.9% from 77.8% in January 2011. Traffic rose 11.5% against an 8.5% increase in capacity. Porter Airlines also reported a higher load factor of 55.7%, up 4 percentage points.
