Brussels Airlines passenger traffic fell 19.1% in March following the terrorist attacks on March 22, which closed Brussels Airport for 12 days. In March Brussels Airlines carried 455,599 passengers, down 19.1%, with the average load factor down 0.5 percentage points to 68.6%. From March 22-31, Brussels Airlines flew 54,650 passengers from alternative airports in Antwerp and Liege and operated just 38% of its normal schedule. As a result, passenger numbers were down 197,421 compared to March 2015. Cargo was also affected, dropping 21% to 2,609 tons.
