BA chief wants merger with Iberia to spark industry reform

Willie Walsh, chief executive of British Airways, speaking at the ABTA Travel Convention in Malta called on delegates to embrace change in the airline industry.

He reassured customers that the merger would not change the identity of the Spanish and British airlines and the merger with Iberia and its alliance with American Airlines would offer many benefits.

Passengers have the choice of flights to 433 destinations to travel to and be able to “mix and match” flight itineraries between the three airlines.

Walsh also riled against the UK government’s planned increase in Air Passenger Duty, which he deemed “unfair” and “extortionate”.
