British Airways has acquired six daily takeoff and landing slots at London’s Heathrow Airport from British Midland International for an undisclosed sum. British Airways’ parent International Consolidated Airlines Group SA will own 45% of takeoff and landing slots at Heathrow Airport after the purchase, up from 44%. British Airways will own 44% of the slots at Heathrow Airport and IAG’s other airline, Iberia, will own 1%. The slots will be used by British Airways from late October 2011 with the airline looking to expand both its longhaul and shorthaul network at the airport, according to a statement from IAG.
