American Airlines traffic up in September

American Airlines, a unit of AMR Corp, reports its September passenger traffic rose 1.9% to 10.24 billion revenue passenger miles or RPMs from 10.05 billion RPMs in the same period last year. Capacity increased 0.3%.

American’s available seat miles or system capacity was 12.59 billion, up 0.3% from 12.55 billion ASMs in the prior year period.

Load factor for September 2011 was 81.4%, up 1.3 points from 80.1% in September 2010.

American Eagle’s September traffic increased 9.2% to 796.98 million revenue passenger miles year over year as capacity increased 7.8% to 1.10 billion ASMs from 1.02 billion ASMs in the year-ago month.

Load factor improved 0.9 points to 72.6% from 71.7% in September 2010.
