Airlines seek new products to drive ancillary revenue

Airlines are looking to boost revenues by selling extra products, such as concert tickets, alongside airline tickets. To this end, the airlines are in loggerheads with the global ticket booking system providers – Sabre Holdings, Travelport and Amadeus IT Group – over the introduction of a new global reservation system.
Speaking at the IATA conference in Beijing, Rob Fyfe, CEO, Air New Zealand warned that carriers might have to abandon these providers if they fail to adapt to support the new products airline are demanding or find another sales solution.
Fyfe stated that his airline found it difficult to sell its “Economy Skycouch” through distributors and had to sell it only through its own website.
