Most of US airlines have referred to the impact on the US federal government shutdown on their business. United Continental, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and US Airways all specifically stated that the shutdown had reduced travel demand in October. Although all were affected, those with major operations in the DC area were the hardest hit; US Airways was particularly hard hit due to its Washington’s Reagan National Airport hub. United, Delta and Southwest also lost tens of millions of dollars in revenue. Demand has since returned but airlines expected the shutdown to continue to be a drag on Q4
