It has been reported that Air India is evaluating switching its order for 787-8s to the larger 787-9. The carrier has taken delivery of 20 787-8s but has seven more yet to deliver, which could be substituted for the 787-9 variant. Model substitution rights is available for Air India under the purchase agreement for the 787-8 aircraft signed by it with Boeing.
