Air Berlin has stated that it will buy 14 A320 aircraft from Alitalia in an attempt to speed its transition to an Airbus-only fleet. A spokesperson for the airline quoted in German business weekly WirtschaftsWoche said that the aircraft will be bought and then sold to leasing companies, with negotiating still ongoing. Etihad, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, owns 49 percent of Alitalia and 29 percent of Air Berlin.
