Aer Lingus reduced its first-quarter operating loss by almost one-third, to €36.1 million compared to a loss of €53.7 million for the same period last year. Total first-quarter revenue was up 15.4% during the period to €251.5 million. The airline said revenue was boosted by strong long-haul sales, specifically in its business-class cabin. Such sales rose by 24.6% to €52.7 million in the first quarter period, while short-haul revenues were up by 12.6% to €148.9 million. Passenger volume rose by 6.6%, with an 8.4% increase in overall yield.
