AEGEAN AIRLINES POSTS PROFIT

Aegean Airlines has posted a €24.1 million ($33.2 million) net profit for the third quarter from €24.3 million during the same period last year. Revenue was down 3% at €199 million on the back of an 8% fall in passenger numbers. International traffic was up by 6% but domestic routes suffered a huge 19% fall in passenger numbers, reflecting the local problems suffered by Greece.

The fourth quarter is always weak and therefore a warning has been issued by the airline of a substantial negative result for the year end.

Aegean remains committed to a merger with Olympic Air but awaits a report from the European Commission investigation into the planned tie-up which is due in January 2011.
